De
Borda Institute:
Belfast
For the
De Borda Institute, tangent developed a consensus decision making
system. De Borda is concerned with introducing consensus voting systems
in local politics here and across the world. Our program can process
the results from thousands of ballots in minutes. It currently features
algorithms for Preferendum, Majority, PRSTV and Condorcet. It has been
used in Northern Ireland and in the Irish Republic to help opposing
political parties in consensus experiments.
Campbell
Mushrooms: South Armagh.
Campbell
Mushrooms specialise in rare varieties of mushrooms, where environmental
control is critical. For them tangent designed and wrote a specialised
system to control the flow of coolant to mushroom tunnels. Our software
monitors the temperature of coolant and switches in pumps accordingly.
The switching scheme is complex, depending on ambient temperature, time
of day and profiles supplied by management.
Hughes
Compost: Co. Tyrone
Here tangent
wrote a program to monitor electrical supply stability in the compost
yard. The program automatically dialed a supervisor by telephone in
the event of a power failure. We also designed and wrote a small system
to record compost make up and predict maturity.
